I bought this gourd at a farmer's market to share with library patrons in the Sno-Isle Library System, where I am offering several programs on painting nature in autumn. On Saturday I took the Mukilteo ferry to offer two library programs on Whidbey Island--it may have been the most beautiful day of the season in Washington. 
I took a photo of two of the painters at the Freeland Library on South Whidbey; they worked with fall leaves, and pumpkins, squashes and gourds and a Japanese maple that I had painted as an example. 
Below is a photo of painters working at Freeland. Many thanks to the Friends of the Library who helped fund this program in both Freeland and Coupeville, and to the librarians and volunteers who assisted me.
Later I drove up to the Coupeville Library and while walking near the wharf there I saw an entire family of sea otters swimming in the Sound. I've never seen one in the wild, so it was quite exciting. 
Molly, Wish I'd known you were going to be on Whidbey. I could have suggested 2 great walks and a wonderful place to have lunch!
