Owl and Moon: Relief Print

This week I've been writing about snow and sharing art that features lots of it! Here is a relief print I carved last year; just this week the North Cascades Institute sent it out as the image on their holiday e-card. I am so pleased to share my art with them, and support their efforts to educate young people in the values of conserving and protecting wild places. I am excited to be teaching there twice in the coming year. In one class we will explore the printmaking method that I employed here; in another we will paint watercolor landscapes inspired by the grand scenery of the North Cascades.

I like the look of that print. I has a story book quality to it and makes you think of experiences that are memorable or out of the ordinary.

The owl still looks a little sleepy although it's nighttime and that is probably to trick any mice that may be running about.

It's cute and would look as good on the cover of a book as on the greeting card. I am sure you must be glad to know that your work is being used to help create a more environmentally aware community.
