I've just returned from a beautiful weekend up in the North Cascades, teaching a landscape watercolor workshop for the North Cascades Institute. We painted on location at the Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake and also took a short drive up to the Diablo Lake Overlook, where I took these photos. There were many very special things about this weekend--it stood out from the many workshops I've taught there before. Much of that was because of the wonderful painters who joined me. I so appreciated their outlook, simply happy to be in such a spectacular place! We all loved the incredible staff at NCI-- Katie Roloson our program coordinator, and Samantha Hale, our NCI grad student assistant.
I am very grateful for the young people who study and work at the Institute--they share their love for the Park with us in ways that adds so much to the workshops. Katie gave a short talk about the geology of the North Cascades in front of the dramatic rock wall with its bands of quartz. Sam was our van driver and also offered us a guided natural history walk to the Diablo Dam on Saturday evening.
