On Friday I learned that Colors of the West was nominated for the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries' Annual Literature Award. The list of nominated books will be made public early in April, and winners will be announced in June. I was quite honored by this nomination, knowing that the council has chosen some wonderful books in the past. Today I post an image from the book: mountain hemlocks in the snow. Drawing and painting the landscapes of the west-- landforms, trees and other flora--taught me alot about their characteristics--the flexibility of a young hemlock, for example, under heavy snow. This week the mountain trees of the Cascades are carrying burdens of snow!
